Dual Fusion Brings Dual-Type Cards to Pokémon TCG Pocket
Dual Fusion hits Pokémon TCG Pocket on October 28 with dual-type cards, weekly special packs, and a year-long Pikachu event with a card by YOSHIROTTEN.
Dual-type cards are coming to Pokémon TCG Pocket for the first time. The Pokémon Company announced that the new Dual Fusion expansion releases on October 28 at 6:00 p.m., landing just ahead of the app’s second anniversary. The game originally launched on October 30, 2024.
What Dual Fusion Adds
Dual-type cards carry two types at once, a mechanic the app has never had. Two have been named so far: Mega Mewtwo X ex is a dual Psychic- and Fighting-type, and Mega Greninja ex is a dual Water- and Dark-type.
The set also includes new cards and illustrations for Pikachu, Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise. The Kanto starters each get fresh art.

Yuriko Akase's Venusaur rests beside a river at the base of a canyon.

Atsushi Furusawa's Charizard roars against a sunset over a mountain range, and its Flame Aura ability deals 30 damage to the opposing Active Pokémon every time you attach a Fire Energy from your Energy Zone.

Kodama's Blastoise stands on a cliff edge overlooking the ocean, with the Aqua Charge ability pulling a Water Energy from the Energy Zone once per turn.

Special Packs Debut Too
Alongside the expansion, special packs arrive as a new pack type. They work differently from regular boosters: you open them with special pack stamina, which refills once a week, and every special pack is guaranteed to contain one ★ (one-star) card.
The first of these, Special Pack: First Partners, runs from October 31 to December 26. Its cards show off the starter Pokémon players meet across all nine of the regions in the Pokémon world.
A Year of Pikachu for the TCG’s 30th
The Pika Pika! Pikachu missions celebrate 30 years of the Pokémon TCG, and the window is wide. You have from 6:00 a.m. PDT on October 20, 2026 until 10:59 p.m. PDT on October 19, 2027 to take part, and logging in on any 10 days inside that span is enough to claim everything.

The headline reward is a Pikachu ex immersive card available only during the event, with artwork by YOSHIROTTEN. That's the same artist behind the Futuristic rare cards in the physical 30th Celebration set, so the app event ties into the anniversary push on the cardboard side.

Rewards also include Pika Pika! Pikachu packs, which contain cards from ♦ rarity up to ★★ rarity plus Shiny Pikachu cards, drawn from expansions spanning Genetic Apex through Deluxe Pack: Mega. The Pika Pika! Pikachu pack ex is guaranteed to contain either a ★★ card or a Shiny Pikachu ex.

On top of the packs, the event hands out accessories: a playmat, card sleeves, and a coin, all showing Pikachu and friends in a forest setting.
Anniversary Campaign and More Events
A second-anniversary event runs from Dual Fusion’s release until December 14. The campaign hands each player a ticket, and trading it in gets you a booster pack that’s guaranteed to hold a two-star card. Starting December 15, six Dual Fusion rental decks open up so you can test the new cards without building anything.
Upcoming in-app events include the Second Anniversary Celebration Campaign, Themed Promo Card Events, and new missions. Team Rocket’s Ambition arrived back in August.
