Pitch Black Top Chase Cards: What We Know So Far

Abyss Eye, the Japanese version of Pitch Black, releases on May 22nd. That means live stream pack rippers are already cracking it open and the top chase cards are surfacing fast. Pitch Black is the fifth English Mega Evolution set and hits shelves July 17, 2026.

Here is a breakdown of everything confirmed so far, with the chase card section filling in as the full leak list comes in.

Abyss Eye and Pitch Black: Same Set, Two Names

If you have seen both names floating around online, here is the short version. Abyss Eye is the Japanese release, dropping May 22nd. Pitch Black is the English version, arriving July 17, 2026. The card pool is essentially the same — English versions are confirmed to be an almost 1:1 copy of the Japanese set. Japanese pack openings are how the full chase card list gets out weeks before the English release.

What Is Confirmed About the Set

Pitch Black features over 115 English cards. The Japanese set runs around 120 cards including secret rares, making this a relatively small set by modern standards. Here is the confirmed breakdown:

  • 6 Mega Evolution Pokémon ex (Mega Darkrai ex, Mega Zeraora ex, Mega Chandelure ex, Mega Excadrill ex, and 2 more)
  • 4 Pokémon ex
  • 11 Illustration Rare Pokémon
  • 18 Ultra Rare Pokémon and Trainer cards
  • 6 Special Illustration Rare Pokémon and Supporter cards
  • More than 20 Trainer cards

The confirmed Mega Evolution Pokémon ex headlining the set:

  • Mega Darkrai ex — the primary face of the set, anchoring a dark nighttime city aesthetic
  • Mega Zeraora ex

The set is Standard legal. Prereleases run July 4th through July 12th ahead of the July 17th release.

Elite Trainer Box Promo

The Pitch Black Elite Trainer Box promo card is a Zarude Illustration Rare. Promo IRs from ETBs have been popular with collectors in past Mega Evolution sets, so this one is worth noting if you are planning to pick up an ETB.
