Mega Rayquaza ex SIR Revealed for Delta Reign

The Mega Rayquaza ex Special Illustration Rare is official. Pokémon revealed the card today in a picnic-themed video, and it carries the number 138/103 in Mega Evolution: Delta Reign, which releases November 6.

Mega Rayquaza ex itself has been the face of the set since the official Delta Reign announcement back in August. What’s new today is the first English look at its Special Illustration Rare treatment, a full-art take that wraps the dragon in swirling green and gold.

The art and the artist

The card is illustrated by Kozuki Minami, who won the 2024 Pokémon TCG Illustration contest with a Pikachu piece. Minami’s work has since appeared in Pokémon TCG Pocket and in 30th Celebration, so this is an artist The Pokémon Company keeps coming back to.

What the card does

The card text matches what Japan got in July. Mega Rayquaza ex is a Basic Pokémon with 280 HP, and since it’s a Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, your opponent takes three Prize cards when it’s Knocked Out.

Its Ability, Ruler’s Roar, triggers once during your turn when you play it from your hand onto your Bench: look at the top four cards of your deck, attach a Basic Energy you find there to this Pokémon, then shuffle the rest and put them on the bottom of your deck.

The attack, Storm Emerald, does 50 damage for each Energy attached to all of your Pokémon. With enough Energy spread across your board, the damage ceiling gets very high. It has a x2 weakness, -30 resistance, and a retreat cost of two.

The rarity picture for Mega Rayquaza ex

This reveal matters more than usual because of what Delta Reign is missing. Delta Reign dropped its Ultra Rare Mega Rayquaza ex, and that version is now slated for a 2027 special tournament collection promo instead.

That leaves the Special Illustration Rare as the only alternate art of Mega Rayquaza ex in the last set of 2026, aside from the Mega Hyper Rare, which has not yet been revealed in English. In Japan the Special Illustration Rare is worth little compared to its Mega Hyper Rare counterpart.

What else was in the video

The reveal video also showed a handful of other cards pulled from Delta Reign booster packs:

• Eevee
• Growlithe
• Groudon
• Kyogre
• Mega Golisopod ex

The Eevee is a familiar face. Its Illustration Rare was the first Delta Reign chase card shown in English back in September.

With one week to go, the English reveals are ramping up. The Mega Hyper Rare is the last major Mega Rayquaza ex version left to see between now and November 6.

Presale prices for Delta Reign products are tracked on our Delta Reign set page ahead of the November 6 release. And once the set is out, you can skip the pack-opening gamble and pick up Mega Rayquaza ex singles directly.
