Flowing Fists Announced With February 5 Release Date

Flowing Fists is the sixth main English set of the Mega Evolution era, and it goes on sale Friday, February 5. Prerelease events run from January 23 through January 31.

Mega Lucario Z ex leads the set. Players first saw it at Worlds in August alongside the ex★ series reveal, and the English version of the card has now been shown.

The Mega Lucario Z ex Card

Mega Lucario Z ex is a Stage 1 Metal Pokémon with 330 HP that evolves from Riolu. Its Ability, Aura Seeker, can be used once per turn while it is in the Active Spot to search your deck for any Supporter card. Because the Ability comes before the attack, a player can find a Supporter, play it, and still attack in the same turn.

That attack is Dancing Fist. For two Metal Energy it does 120 damage, or 240 if the opponent’s Active Pokémon is a Pokémon ex.

It follows the Mega Evolution ex rule, so your opponent takes 3 Prize cards when it is Knocked Out. Weakness is Fire, resistance is Grass at -30, and the retreat cost is two. The printed details at the bottom show card number 058/080, the FLO set code, a J regulation mark, two black stars for Double Rare, and illustrator takuyoa.

Back to Furious Fists

The name points back to XY: Furious Fists, the 2014 set headlined by M Lucario-EX. That card was a Fighting type. The new Z form is Metal, which matches Lucario’s Fighting and Steel typing in the games.

How Big Flowing Fists Should Be

Lucario’s number, 058/080, points to an 80-card main set. That would be a little smaller than recent English sets. Pitch Black has an 84-card main set and runs to 120/084, Chaos Rising has 86 and runs to 122/086, and Perfect Order has 88 and runs to 124/088. In all three, the secret rares take up 36 numbers past the main set.

If Flowing Fists follows the same split, it would come in at about 116 cards. The full count won’t be known until the English card list is out.

The English set is based on Japan’s Aura Seeker, which releases November 27 and is also led by Mega Lucario Z ex. The English card’s Ability has the same name as that set. Aura Seeker’s official reveal in Japan is expected soon, and its card list will be the best early look at the rest of Flowing Fists.
